The future of Max Verstappen continues to generate speculation in Formula 1, and Guenther Steiner believes the four-time world champion is already considering possible alternatives outside Red Bull. For the former Haas boss, only three teams appear as viable destinations: Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren.

Despite the contract with Red Bull until 2028, Verstappen has exit clauses linked to the team’s performance. One of them would allow an exit if he is outside the top-2 in the Drivers’ World Championship during the summer break.
Red Bull currently occupies fourth place in the constructors’ championship, with only 30 points after four rounds. Verstappen is seventh in the World Championship and has scored practically all the team’s points so far.
Commenting on a possible move of the Dutchman to Ferrari, Steiner stated that only three teams could take the driver.
“In my opinion, Max can only go to three teams: Ferrari, McLaren, or Mercedes,” he said speaking to a betting site.

Steiner also highlighted that big teams usually make room for names considered generational, citing the replacement of Carlos Sainz by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari.
Furthermore, rumors about a possible move of Verstappen to Mercedes remain alive due to the relationship with Toto Wolff. McLaren gained strength in the speculation after the confirmation that Gianpiero Lambiase, the Dutchman’s long-time engineer, will work at the team until 2028.
“He will be observing and talking with these three teams, but I don’t think there is one that is exclusively focused on him right now,” Steiner concluded.
