The documentary Pferdestärke – Die Welt der Gina Schumacher, from ZDF, which premieres on April 17, brings new accounts of Gina Schumacher’s trajectory and the impact of the accident of her father, seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, in 2013 — an episode that the family keeps in secrecy, asking for privacy since then.

In the production, Gina reveals how horse riding became essential for dealing with the moment experienced by the family. Today a multiple world reining champion, she recalls: “After my father’s accident, I dove in headfirst, because I needed to do something. Horses have always been important, but since then, I simply cannot live without them. They helped me overcome everything.”
The documentary also brings together testimonies from Corinna Schumacher, who recalls a statement from her husband when Gina was 10 years old: “Michael told me once: ‘Gina will be much better than you’”, Corinna said. “‘Because she is more selfish. If you are an athlete, you have to be selfish in a certain way. This is great, because otherwise you achieve nothing. Today I think: he was absolutely right.”

Since the accident in 2013, the few news reports that have come out about Schumacher revealed that the German has not fully recovered. His son, Mick Schumacher, even drove for Haas in Formula 1 and is now pursuing a career in IndyCar.
