Mika Salo, former Formula 1 driver, suffered an attack by a motorcyclist with a sharp object during a holiday trip in Thailand, resulting in a leg injury. Despite the scare, he assured fans that he is fine.

According to the Finnish newspaper 1st, the incident happened on May 19. “At that moment, I felt something hit me, but I didn’t realize what had happened. Then, a pedestrian told me that my leg was bleeding a lot,” Salo told the publication.
After realizing that the injury was worse than expected, Mika was helped by a taxi driver who rushed him to the hospital. Later, doctors informed the ex-F1 driver that the place is dealing with many similar situations and that the former driver was probably injured by a knife.
“They told me there were several cases with similar injuries that night. There are always idiots in big cities. Fortunately, I only injured my leg and not somewhere else,” Salo continued.
“If someone really wanted to cause serious injuries, they probably would have aimed at the upper body,” he added.

“Unfortunately, I can’t swim or do much. I have spent most of the time in the hotel room. The wound dries better with air conditioning. The doctor also told me not to walk long distances, but I can walk one or two kilometers without problems. I don’t feel pain and don’t need painkillers, only the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor,” he pointed out.
Speaking on social media, Salo thanked the medical staff who helped him after the attack and emphasized how he intends to return to the country. “Thailand. My trip this time was eventful. Very hot and humid here, but the food is great and the people are friendly and kind. I had a small incident and had to go to the hospital,” he posted.
“I want to thank the excellent nurses and doctors here in Thailand. And a very special thanks to the Thailand Police and the Thailand Tourist Police for their effective and incredible response to the incident. Thailand remains one of the safest places in the world. I will be back soon,” he added.
