The Briton lined up in sixth at Hungaroring, but as soon as the lights went out, the competitor’s W17 didn’t move, dropping to the back of the pack. In the end, taking advantage of opportunities, retirements, and the virtual safety car intervention, he still finished within the top-10.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race, the Mercedes driver explained his problems at the start, saying he hopes his luck will change when F1 resumes the championship in Zandvoort at the end of August.

“I had my foot on the accelerator, waiting, when suddenly the engine started oscillating wildly. The revs were going up and down a lot. It’s just another item on the list of things that have happened in the first half of this year; now we just have to hope things calm down in the second half,” he said.
