Lewis Hamilton vented about penalties in Formula 1 and stated he was dissatisfied with the inconsistency of the stewards’ decisions after receiving yet another penalty at the Hungarian GP.

The Ferrari driver had lost three positions on the Hungaroring grid for impeding Oscar Piastri in qualifying. In the race, for exceeding the pitlane speed by 0.1 km/h, he received a 5s sanction and despite finishing fourth, dropped to fifth.
Speaking about the recent penalties received in Formula 1, the seven-time champion said that “the last two races have been pretty bad on my part. Silverstone was my fault. We talked about it in the drivers’ briefing, about the fact that they are inconsistent regarding the start.”
“There have been cases in the past of drivers who moved and were not penalized. We discussed with them that as long as you are not moving while the lights are on, you should not be penalized. I was not positioned correctly in my starting bracket, and they agreed. So, they are looking into that,” he continued.

“In the last race, even the driver I collided with [George Russell] said it was just a racing incident. And they didn’t penalize me for that. That cost me a lot of points. And yesterday’s incident was really unfortunate. I take responsibility. It’s a long track. I should have looked in the mirrors, but I thought everyone would already be at the end of the first lap.”
“And the information I received came very late, exactly at the moment he was behind me. So, there was a communication breakdown. I will work hard to try to turn things around and start over. There are still many positives to take. But I need to make sure I don’t give them any reason to apply a penalty to me,” he concluded.
