George Russell issued an apology on his social media to the track marshals after throwing his headrest away upon retiring from the Formula 1 Canadian GP last Sunday (24).

The Mercedes driver was leading the race in Montreal but was engaged in an intense battle with his teammate Kimi Antonelli. The duo was constantly swapping positions throughout the first 30 laps of the race.
It so happened that on this very lap, he lost power in his car and retired. Out of anger, he threw his W17 headrest far away, but he later apologized for the action. “I apologize to the track marshals and the FIA for making their job harder than necessary,” he stated.

“Many emotions at the moment,” he added.
For the incident, Russell was fined 5000 euros. Also, with the retirement and Antonelli’s victory, he is 43 points behind his teammate in the standings.
