Red Bull Racing is already working to solve the problems of the so-called ‘Macarena’ rear wing, after the incidents involving Max Verstappen. The team confirmed that an update will be ready for the Hungarian GP, after opting for the return of the previous specification at the Belgian Formula 1 GP.

This change happened after a sequence of mechanical failures that affected the four-time champion’s performance. Even with the component removed at Spa-Francorchamps, Verstappen managed to secure his third podium of the year by finishing the race in third position.
The problems began at the Austrian GP, when the Dutchman suffered an accident during the qualifying session. Subsequently, at the British GP, he spun when he was in third place after the airflow in the rear wing area did not return to the expected behavior after the flap closed.
Laurent Mekies, Red Bull’s boss, clarified that the incidents recorded in the two races did not have the same origin, despite both being mechanical in nature. According to him, work to correct the failures is already underway at the team’s factory.
“It was something mechanical, and they were two different things. Therefore, two distinct mechanical problems. We will have a solution for Budapest,” Mekies stated when commenting on the incidents involving the rear wing.

For the Belgian GP, Red Bull decided to use the previous specification rear wing again, equipped with a flap similar to the DRS system. The change allowed the team to temporarily set aside the latest component while seeking a definitive solution.
Verstappen positively evaluated the car’s behavior with the configuration used in Spa. The Dutch driver highlighted that the main aspect was the predictability of the equipment during the race, in addition to noting an improvement in the overall balance.
“You mean the old rear wing. It worked well. I kept the car on track, which I think is the first thing. We were a bit more competitive, and the balance was a bit better, but we had more difficulties with the Hard tires, simple as that,” concluded the Red Bull driver.
