Sergio Perez may get another opportunity in Formula 1 in 2027. According to the Japanese portal Auto Sport Web, representatives of the Mexican have already started talks with Williams, in a move conditioned on Carlos Sainz leaving the British team.

Sainz’s situation in Grove remains undefined, especially after a first half of the season below Williams’ expectations. After eleven races, the Spaniard has not managed to finish any race in the top eight and is in 15th position in the championship, with six points, just one more than his teammate, Alex Albon.
Sainz himself admitted that he will need to evaluate his future during the current break in the category. After the Hungarian GP, the Spanish driver told the newspaper Marca that he is satisfied with his individual performance, but sees the lack of competitiveness of the car as an important problem: “I am driving well, very well, actually, but if the car is not working, we have to take a very big step if we want to recover,” he said.
Asked about his plans for the rest of the season, Sainz avoided confirming his stay at Williams: “The plan is to decide, but yes, we have to analyze this calmly,” he said. The team has also already directed much of its attention to 2027, after the team principal, James Vowles, acknowledged that the current season is lost.

In this scenario, Perez appears as an alternative for Williams. The Mexican returned to Formula 1 this year with Cadillac, but his contractual situation with the new team has not yet been officially clarified, despite some reports indicating a multi-year link. Besides the accumulated experience, Perez is also considered attractive for the commercial potential and financial support associated with his career.
Before the Hungarian GP, Perez indicated that Cadillac was already starting to think about next season: “It’s a moment when we start focusing on next year,” he commented. The Mexican added that the team needs to continue working on car development to gain confidence in the project.
Thus, a possible arrival of Perez at Williams would first depend on the decision about Sainz. For now, the movement attributed to the Mexican’s manager represents only a possibility, while the Spaniard’s future in Grove remains unconfirmed.
