Lando Norris found in Max Verstappen a reference to keep the fight for the Formula 1 title alive in 2026. The Briton highlighted the Dutchman’s comeback in 2025 as proof that it is still possible to overturn a significant disadvantage.

Norris won for the first time in the current season before the August break, at the Hungaroring, and won again upon the championship’s return in Zandvoort. With the result, the Briton occupies fourth place in the drivers’ championship, 83 points behind Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes.
The current situation partly resembles the scenario experienced by Verstappen last year. The Red Bull Racing driver managed to reduce the gap throughout the season and fought for the title until the end, but finished as runner-up, just two points behind Norris.
For the Briton, the main lesson from last year is the need to keep believing as long as there is a mathematical possibility: “Just the fact that it is possible. Just the fact of continuing to believe, continuing to work hard, continuing to motivate the team in all the right ways. That is the biggest thing,” Norris told Sky Sports News.

Norris also assessed that Verstappen’s comeback did not happen because Red Bull was doing something fundamentally better than McLaren. According to him, mistakes made by his own team at certain moments made a difference: “Max didn’t do anything better than what we were doing, apart from the fact that we made some mistakes as a team in certain places,” he added.
Therefore, the Briton believes the main lesson is not to give up hope while the fight remains open: “It’s a situation somewhat similar to what Mercedes is experiencing now in relation to where I am. So, there’s not much to take from it other than to keep believing it’s possible until it’s no longer possible. And that’s the attitude with which we will fight,” concluded the British driver.
