Adrian Newey gave his first opinions on Aston Martin’s major upgrade package brought to this Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.

One of the main focuses in the paddock was on the AMR26 and the 16 new components brought to the Hungaroring event. Among the novelties were new front and rear wings, diffuser, and sidepods, already seen on track after the first free practice sessions.
Therefore, after the first F1 sessions in Hungary, even with Lance Stroll suffering a suspension failure in FP1 and not running in FP2, the designer said the initial verdict is promising. “We are still at a very early stage to understand the new package. The interim results are promising,” he said.

“It’s just one part of the package. We will have a few more stages in Zandvoort, Monza, and Baku; therefore, this is the first part of our planned update. We have few parts available, so we are being cautious and trying to learn everything about it. It is an evolution, in that the chassis is the same, the layout is the same, and the front suspension is the same. So, it is essentially an aerodynamic evolution,” he added.
“We had very little research time before the car’s launch in Barcelona in February. So, it has really been a matter of taking a step back, trying to understand, and moving forward with this package,” he concluded.
