The possibility involves a single race at the Sepang International Circuit, which has not hosted the category since 2017. The event could fill the slot left by the Bahrain GP, which was not held previously in 2026 and faces difficulties in being rescheduled.
According to information published by The Race, F1 had considered October 4 for the Bahrain race. The change would create a sequence of three races with Azerbaijan and Singapore, but the worsening crisis in the Middle East made this scenario unlikely.

As a result, Malaysia began to be pointed out as an alternative for early October. Sepang increased expectations by publishing enigmatic posts and videos on its social media, while the Prime Minister himself confirmed that news will be presented soon.
“Regarding F1, we will make an announcement on Sunday,” Anwar Ibrahim told the press after participating in the opening ceremony of SMKA Sheikh Tahir Jalaluddin. If the return is confirmed, Formula 1 will hold its first race in Sepang in nine years and will find a solution for one of the main uncertainties of the 2026 calendar.
