Mercedes won the Italian Grand Prix in Formula 1 for the first time since 2018 and even completed a one-two finish in Monza. The result was the team’s third 1-2 of the 2026 season and the first since the Chinese GP.

Kimi Antonelli finished ahead of George Russell, repeating for the second time this year a Mercedes one-two with the Italian in first place. Russell, in second place, reached his seventh podium of the season and isolated himself in second place in the championship.
Max Verstappen completed the podium in third. It was the Dutchman’s fifth podium of the year, the first since the Hungarian GP, and his third third-place finish of the season. Ferrari, on the other hand, was off the podium in Monza for the second consecutive year, while Charles Leclerc retired for the third time in 2026, his first retirement since Barcelona.

McLaren placed both its cars in the top five for the fourth time in the championship and for the first time since Barcelona. Pierre Gasly became the eighth different driver to lead laps this season, while Yuki Tsunoda scored his first points of the year. Audi, in turn, saw end a streak of four consecutive GPs in the points zone.
The race also had important numbers regarding interruptions. It was the first Italian GP with neutralization since 2022, with a two-lap Virtual Safety Car and the race ending under Safety Car. Monza also received its first red flag since 2020, precisely in the edition won by Gasly, and Formula 1 thus recorded the second consecutive GP with a red flag interruption.
