Kimi Antonelli made history in Formula 1 by winning in Monza after starting only from 19th position. The Italian secured the victory with the second worst starting position ever recorded by a winner in the category.

Antonelli became the first driver to win starting from 19th since Bill Vukovich at the 1954 Indianapolis 500. Only John Watson managed to triumph from an even lower position, winning in Long Beach in 1983 after starting 22nd.
The result also set a new specific record for Monza. Until then, the worst starting position of a winner on the circuit was 11th, a mark set by Peter Gethin in 1971. Antonelli considerably extended this limit by winning from the penultimate row.

The triumph also had a special significance for Italian motorsport. Antonelli became the first driver from the country to win in Monza since Ludovico Scarfiotti, who had achieved the feat in 1966.
With the victory, Antonelli also reached the same number of career wins as George Russell. Both drivers now have seven wins each in Formula 1.
