George Russell is expected to return stronger after the mid-season break in Formula 1, according to Mercedes. Even after a first half of the season marked by difficulties, the team believes the Briton is still in the championship fight and has the ability to regain his best performance.

Confidence was shown by the team’s deputy chief, Bradley Lord, who stated that the break represents the ideal opportunity for Russell to reorganize his work and start the second part of the championship in better conditions. The executive also highlighted that the driver faced a series of technical problems and setbacks that harmed his results.
In an interview with GPblog, Lord commented that he understands the pressure faced by Russell, often pointed out as a favorite before race weekends. According to him, this type of expectation can serve as motivation but also increase the difficulty of the moment: “I don’t underestimate the challenge for drivers to enter this scenario three or four times per weekend hearing that they are the favorites, and being questioned about why they are not meeting expectations. This can drive them, but it is also something difficult to manage,” he said.

The executive also recalled episodes that compromised the Briton’s campaign, citing technical problems in China, which affected his performance in qualifying, as well as the penalty received in Monaco and the consequences worsened by a red flag. For Lord, these events created a chain effect: “I think, at different moments of the year, he felt that when something went wrong, other problems appeared afterwards. This break in August offers an excellent opportunity to take a step back and reassess everything,” he said.
Even without occupying the desired position in the drivers’ standings, Lord reinforced that Russell remains in the title fight and expressed confidence in the Briton’s performance after the season resumes: “He knows he may not be exactly where he would like, but he is still in the championship fight. When he manages to reorganize and return for the second half of the season, I am really confident that we will see the best of George in the remaining 11 or 12 races,” Lord concluded.
