The weekend in Cuiabá made history for NASCAR Brasil. For the first time on the category’s calendar, the Autódromo Internacional de Mato Grosso hosted a stage that delivered an excellent combination of an interested audience and a race capable of holding attention until the last lap.

The 2800 km external circuit was still an unknown before the green flag. It is not simple to insert a new layout into a championship that has been building its identity on tracks already known to the public. But Cuiabá brought a good response: the night race, which was extremely lively and unpredictable, showed that the racetrack has potential.
The main highlight, however, was the reception from the city. NASCAR Brasil found a region willing to embrace the event. Even with a traditional winter festival in Chapada dos Guimarães and a racetrack still unfinished in the public area, the grandstand reached 70% of its capacity filled, according to the organization. This number shows that there is room for motorsport outside the traditional centers of the country and Cuiabá seems to be one of these new opportunities.
The comparison with NASCAR in the United States becomes inevitable in some points. All proportions considered, the Cuiabá circuit brought a reminder of Pocono, a track that became one of the hallmarks of the North American calendar precisely because it presents its own identity and offers races different from the rest of the season. Cuiabá can follow a similar path, as it showed to be a stage with a lot of personality.

The product presented last Saturday was one of the best in national motorsport in 2026. The fight for victory between Arthur Gama, Alfredinho Ibiapina, Felipe Tozzo, and Gabriel Casagrande had all the ingredients a race needs: position changes, different strategies, wheel-to-wheel battles, and a finish practically at the final flag, without excess safety car.
Of course, there is still a way to go. An event of this size needs more promotion to reach an even larger audience, especially those who cannot attend in person. Now that there is already a notion of what the stage in Mato Grosso delivers, NASCAR Brasil has the chance to turn Cuiabá into one of its great showcases.
The category found a gold mine in the Midwest. Cuiabá showed that there is a new frontier for national motorsport and, after what was seen at the Autódromo Internacional de Mato Grosso, the question is no longer whether the category should return to the city, but rather how big this stage can become in the coming years.
