Laurent Mekies explained how Max Verstappen managed to avoid disqualification after his teammate Isack Hadjar’s car failed the technical inspection following the qualifying for the Miami Formula 1 GP.

After the timing session at Hard Rock Stadium, the French Red Bull driver lost his starting position due to a 2mm irregularity in his floor. Because of this, he had to start the race from the pits.
Many expected Verstappen to also be disqualified, but his RB22 passed the inspection and the Dutchman started in second. Mekies then explained that the error was human.

“They were exactly the same specification. We made a mistake on Isack’s car. It’s very simple, the car was considered two millimeters wider than allowed,” said the official.
“We should have noticed this earlier in our routine checks. We didn’t, and it’s painful, but it’s easy to fix,” he added.
