Formula 1 has already seen talents who did not achieve everything they promised, and Helmut Marko highlighted a remarkable name. For the former Red Bull Racing consultant, Juan Pablo Montoya did not manage to get the most out of his career in the category.

This assessment draws attention because it concerns one of the fastest drivers of the early 2000s. Even with wins and standout performances, Marko believes the Colombian could have gone even further, considering his natural talent.
The two had contact even before F1, when Montoya raced in the International Formula 3000 for Marko’s team in 1997. That season, the Colombian driver won three races and finished as runner-up, already showing his potential: “There are some who come close, but Montoya did not make the most of his abilities. It was a great pity,” said the Austrian.

In Formula 1, Montoya had a career marked by ups and downs, but always with evident speed. For Williams, between 2001 and 2004, he won four races, before adding three more victories after moving to McLaren.
Besides F1, the Colombian also shone in other categories, with two wins in the Indianapolis 500 in Indycar. Still, for Marko, the overall career fell short of what Montoya’s talent indicated.
