After a good start to 2026, the Racing Bulls driver faced a difficult weekend in Zandvoort. On the very first lap, he was penalized for an overtaking maneuver during a yellow flag period – all due to Max Verstappen’s accident, which forced drivers to change their pace to avoid collision.
In this, the Briton passed Pierre Gasly, receiving a drive-through penalty and two points on his Super License as a consequence. “We were in a very good position after the first lap,” he said.
“I find the penalty a bit harsh. I think we all agree that it is quite extreme. But okay, it is what it is; there’s no point speculating about it now. It’s over,” he continued.

“It’s a bit sad because I think it ended up hurting our race. But after that, we had a very good race. There are some things we could have done better, but regardless, it was a very good race.”
“I’m sad for not scoring points, as I think the team and I deserved that. Without a doubt, if it weren’t for the penalty, we would have finished eighth,” he concluded.
