A heavy rain began to fall in Zandvoort just over half an hour before the start of the Dutch Grand Prix of Formula 1. The condition left open the possibility of the race starting with dry or wet tires.

The teams have already set up covers over the cars on the grid to protect them while waiting for the rain to pass. The expectation is that conditions will improve enough for the covers to be removed before the final procedures for the start.
At this moment, a conventional standing start does not seem to be threatened. The scenario, however, still depends on the intensity of the rain in the minutes leading up to the start of the race.

If the precipitation increases instead of decreasing, another possibility is considered. The race could start behind the Safety Car, with a rolling start, depending on track conditions and visibility.
With the weather changing rapidly in Zandvoort, the decision on tires and the starting procedure is expected to remain open until closer to the start of the Dutch GP.
