Lewis Hamilton did not hide his emotion when talking about Arsenal’s Premier League title, ending a drought of more than two decades. The seven-time Formula 1 champion said he was brought to tears seeing the London club return to the top of English football.

The achievement came after Manchester City’s draw with Bournemouth, which secured the trophy for the team led by Mikel Arteta. Even with the Champions League final against PSG still ahead, the Ferrari driver highlighted the special meaning of the campaign for the fans.
“I was very emotional. Honestly, I shed a tear,” he said. Hamilton recalled his childhood in Stevenage, where he played football with neighborhood friends and tried to fit in among supporters of different English clubs. “I was the only black kid in the area and everyone supported different teams, West Ham, Tottenham, and Manchester United,” he said.

The F1 competitor also said that his definitive connection with Arsenal came through his sister, in a memory he described as funny. According to Hamilton, he used to change teams depending on his friendships at the time, until he was convinced at home.
“I remember exactly that. I even messaged my sister the other day. She was taking me home and asked which team I supported. Then she punched me in the arm and said, ‘You have to support Arsenal.’ We laughed a lot remembering that,” he added.
