Lewis Hamilton escaped a penalty after being investigated for an incident during the qualifying of the Formula 1 Canadian GP this Saturday (23).

The seven-time world champion was called by the race direction for being involved in an incident with Pierre Gasly during Q1. The stewards felt that the Ferrari driver ended up hindering the Alpine driver during a fast lap and wanted to hear from the British driver.
The summons happened even with Hamilton and Gasly managing to advance to Q2 – Lewis qualified in fifth place overall.

In the explanation for the decision not to punish the driver of car #44, the Formula 1 stewards stated that “the stewards heard the driver of car 44 (Lewis Hamilton), the driver of car 10 (Pierre Gasly), team representatives and analyzed data from the positioning and signaling system, videos, times, telemetry, team radio, and onboard images.”
“The driver of car 44 explained that he believed car 10 was not on a fast lap, and his team confirmed having the same interpretation. The driver and team representative of car 10 stated that they did not consider the case as ‘unnecessary obstruction.’ Therefore, the stewards decided not to take any further action,” they added.
