Alberto Longo, co-founder and CCO of Formula E, left the door open for Fernando Alonso, saying that the Aston Martin driver in Formula 1 is fostering people’s interest in the electric category.

“As you can imagine, for me it would be the fulfillment of a dream. Fernando is a close friend, a personal friend. I met him back in 2002. So, it would be a very emotional day for me if Fernando ended his career in Formula E. But the mere fact that he is already talking about it is significant. He never talked about Formula E in the past, you know?”, he told RacingNews365.
“This shows the level of interest that Gen4 is generating. It is basically awakening the interest of people who had never considered Formula E as an option for their careers,” he added.

The invitation comes after a statement from the two-time F1 champion himself, where he spoke about his future and pointed out that “Dakar and rally cars, in general, are a lot of fun because you practically dance with the car. Any car, even the Formula E one. I think the new car for next year, with four-wheel drive, looks pretty fast, judging by the tests they carried out.”
The 44-year-old driver is expected to decide his future in the category and whether he will continue in the 2027 season in the coming weeks, as the championship approaches the summer break.
