Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, has hinted at the possibility of a return of the Turkish GP to the category’s calendar. In a recent statement, Domenicali suggested that the Istanbul circuit, which has already hosted nine editions of F1 between 2005 and 2011, could be close to a new return. Although not yet 100% confirmed, the executive asked fans to ‘stay tuned’, signaling that the race could return as early as 2027.

The Istanbul circuit had a brief return between 2020 and 2021, when it was included in the calendar exceptionally due to the Covid-19 pandemic, replacing other races that could not be held. Now, F1 seems to be considering its return more permanently.
Domenicali also responded to criticism about the growing number of street circuits on the calendar, reiterating that F1 does not plan to exceed 24 races per season: “The new circuits that are coming are not street races. These circuits have a great legacy and a great racing history,” he added.

He also confirmed that Portugal is guaranteed on the calendar and that Madrid is working to have a semi-permanent circuit ready later this year.
With the promise of a controlled number of races, Domenicali emphasized that F1 will maintain the limit of 24 races per season, but is open to alternating with other locations should new opportunities arise in the future.
