Germany has been out of Formula 1 since 2021, when the Eifel GP, held at Nürburgring during the Covid-19 pandemic, was included in the calendar exceptionally and was won by Lewis Hamilton. The last race held in Hockenheim took place in 2019, won by Max Verstappen.

Domenicali explained that the talks are focused on a long-term project, with no expectation of an immediate return. “For the first time, we have resumed contact with the people from Hockenheim to assess whether, in the future, in the long term, and not in the short term, they will be able to host a race again,” he said.

The executive also highlighted that the growing interest of the German public in Formula 1 strengthens the possibility of the country returning to the calendar. According to him, the new broadcasting agreement with the RTL network and the expectation of greater competition for media rights are positive signs.

“Now, with the agreement we have with RTL, the numbers are changing. And, in the next bidding for broadcasting rights in the German market, we will have for the first time more than one company interested in participating. This is another sign that, in Europe, which continues to be a very important market for us, interest in Formula 1 is growing even more,” concluded Domenicali.
