Lando Norris started from pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1, but finished the race only in third. Evaluating the whole situation, David Coulthard pointed out a problem that cost the Briton the victory.

The current F1 champion was leading in the first part of the race and was starting to open a gap. However, a virtual safety car was deployed just seconds after passing the pit lane entrance, and when he made the stop at the end of the next lap, he returned to the track in fifth.
Speaking about the race in Madrid, Coulthard highlighted that things could have been different if Norris had not been so fast in his first stint. “Life is not perfect,” he said on the Up To Speed podcast.

“And we all agree that Lando was incredible in the race. The problem is this: he was too fast. If he had been slower, he would have been able to make the stop during the virtual safety car,” he continued.
“But, since he opened that four or five second gap, he ended up being the victim of the situation. Bad luck for Lando,” he added.
