Kimi Antonelli’s third consecutive victory in the 2026 Formula 1 championship, achieved at the Miami GP last Sunday (3), gained prominence in the British press and extended his lead over George Russell in the drivers’ standings.

The Guardian praised the young Italian’s composure under pressure from Lando Norris, the current world champion with McLaren: “The margins were small, but in the end, it was the composure of a champion that gave Kimi Antonelli the day at the Miami Grand Prix. The teenager still cannot legally buy alcohol in the US, but at the end of an exciting race to the finish line, the Italian certainly deserved a strong drink.”
The Times highlighted the intensity of the race, which had five different leaders, as well as Mercedes’ strategy and the driver’s maturity: “The teenager won a chaotic Miami Grand Prix with five different race leaders. It was full of action from the first lap to the last corner of the last lap, where George Russell stole fourth place from Charles Leclerc to salvage some valuable points in the championship. The race was won both from the pit wall and thanks to Antonelli’s mature driving, with Mercedes making their pit stop before McLaren and applying the undercut on Lando Norris.”

Daily Mail focused on the impact for Russell, now 20 points behind the rookie: “Russell finished fourth and is now 20 points behind the rookie he should be mentoring. Ha, if we were naive enough to believe things work with such generosity in Formula 1. This Hard Rock Stadium circuit is not one Russell likes, so maybe this should be treated as just a minor setback. Perhaps, however, it is a sign of things to come.” The newspaper also recalled that Antonelli matches a record of Alberto Ascari, the last Italian to win three consecutive races, in 1952.
With the result, Antonelli consolidates his lead with 100 points and remains the main highlight of the season.
