Fernando Alonso took advantage of the days before the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1 to return to the track in Barcelona with some of the most special cars from his collection. Among them were Ayrton Senna’s 1984 Toleman and the 1989 McLaren MP4-5.

The Spaniard’s collection is valued at around £32 million and includes F1, DTM, and GT models. The MP4-5 retains the wide nose of the MP4-4 and differs from the 1990 MP4-5b by its wider sides.

On social media, Alonso highlighted the importance of taking the cars to the track: “A very special day at the Circuit de Barcelona, enjoying some of the cars from my collection where they really belong: on the track. F1, historic, GTs AND DTM. Excellent day. Because collecting is also preserving, appreciating, and keeping this history alive.”

The passion for different categories has accompanied Alonso for years. The driver has competed in IndyCar, the World Endurance Championship, and the Dakar Rally, accumulating experience that goes beyond Formula 1.
The moment also comes amid doubts about his future. The contract with Aston Martin ends at the end of the season, and Alonso has not yet confirmed whether he will remain with the team.
