Fernando Alonso revealed that the arrival of his first child has influenced his outlook on the future in Formula 1. The Spaniard, who recently became a father to a boy with reporter Melissa Jiménez, admitted that this new phase of life brought reflections about his continuation in motorsport.

The 44-year-old veteran is having a difficult start to the 2026 season with Aston Martin, which is still facing issues related to the Honda engine. The team has yet to score its first points and is still far from competing in the midfield pack.
In an interview with Sky Sports F1, the two-time world champion explained that fatherhood changed his way of thinking about his career: “I have some thoughts about it, I can’t lie. It changes the way you see life,” he said. “I have to say it’s taking me in the opposite direction. I want to keep racing so he can see me racing. But until he is aware of things, maybe a few years will pass, and I don’t want to race for another four or five years again!”

“I was thinking: if I race for another one or two years, will he have any memory or understanding of what happens in the paddock and things like that? I would like not to stop before he is in the paddock, or sits in my car, that kind of thing. These are moments you will remember for your whole life, so being a father really changes [your mindset].”
Despite Aston Martin’s difficulties in 2026, Alonso continues working to help the team improve after the progress made in solving the vibration problems of the car developed by Adrian Newey.
