Williams confirmed that Alexander Albon will visit South Africa at the end of July, concluding a month-long tour that took the Williams FW48 show car to shopping malls in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg.

In addition to being an opportunity for South African fans to relive the excitement of F1, Albon’s visit will also carry historical significance. South Africa hosted its last Grand Prix in 1993, when Alain Prost won at the Kyalami Circuit with the Williams FW15C. More than three decades later, the driver will be the first active Williams representative to officially return to the country.
“I’ve always wanted to go to South Africa; it’s a beautiful country, and South African fans are among the most passionate in motorsport,” said Albon. “Bringing F1 to the fans, and doing things differently, is what the Williams F1 Team represents, so this is exactly the kind of moment we love to be a part of… It’s incredible to be the first Williams driver here since Alain Prost won in 1993, and I’d love to see a race in Africa one day, and I definitely want to come back!”

The initiative is part of a fan engagement strategy adopted by Williams in recent seasons. In 2024, Brazil also received a visit from the driver outside the São Paulo GP season for an event at the Anhembi Sambadrome.
