Williams’ weekend didn’t exactly start on the right foot at the Formula 1 Australian GP. In the two free practice sessions, Alexander Albon even managed to complete some laps, but had problems in FP1, while Carlos Sainz faced issues and couldn’t even run in the second session in Melbourne.

In the first session of the day, the Anglo-Thai ended up stopping on the side of the track in the final minutes and, as a result, finished only in 15th place. In the second practice, despite not facing any issues, he finished in the same position.
“The first race weekend with the new regulations was always going to be a challenge, and so it wasn’t our smoothest day. We had some setbacks with the data and with adapting to the car, but we’re going to analyze what we learned in free practice and how we can apply that tomorrow,” he said.

“We need to better understand the tire distribution on this track and the most efficient way to use them. We’re going to spend a lot of time overnight working with the simulator team and looking for tools to try and find a better setup for tomorrow. There’s a lot to improve before qualifying, and it’s all part of the learning process,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sainz took the checkered flag with the 12th fastest time in the first session, while in the second activity of the day at Albert Park, he had to spend most of the time in the garage while Williams investigated the problem with his car.
