Danica Patrick, former IndyCar and NASCAR driver, revealed the reasons behind her unexpected departure from the Sky Sports F1 commentary team. The American, who had been part of the team since 2021, primarily worked on Formula 1 races held in the US, with her last appearance at the 2025 United States GP in Austin.

The decision to step away from the broadcaster came from Patrick herself: “I called after last year’s season and just said it was time to move on,” the former driver told AP. She explained that she wanted to dedicate more time to other projects and personal interests: “I’m building a new company. I’m also on some boards with big plans and keeping myself busy learning new sports like tennis, golf, and skiing,” she said.
Patrick praised the experience gained during her time as a Formula 1 commentator: “I had an incredible time with the Sky Sports team. It was a lot of work, more than being a driver in many ways during a race weekend, especially in terms of time commitment at the track. But as a group, we made it fun. I learned a lot about F1 and the drivers and became an even bigger fan,” she added.
The former driver highlighted her appreciation for the category’s team principals: “The sport of F1 is a lot of fun. My favorite part is the team principals. They understand how to make good television, while also being incredible at managing their racing teams,” she concluded.

Patrick also announced her departure via social media. Over the years, the American has stood out for controversial opinions, including theories about alien life, and for her political engagement, such as participating in a panel with the current US Vice President, JD Vance, in 2024, when he was Donald Trump’s running mate.
Danica Patrick’s departure marks the end of a four-year cycle as a Sky Sports F1 commentator, a period in which she contributed to bringing the American public closer to the world of Formula 1.
