Formula 1 recorded two curfew infringements at the Monaco GP. McLaren and Cadillac were notified by the FIA after members of their teams remained working at the circuit during the restricted period between Friday and Saturday.

Despite the violation, neither team received a penalty. The stewards explained that this was the first of four exceptional cases allowed by the regulations for each team throughout the 2026 season, which avoided any sanction.
According to the document released by the FIA, professionals involved in car operations remained at the circuit after the start of the 11-and-a-half-hour curfew period, which began at 10 PM on Friday. The regulations allow for up to four individual exceptions per season, provided they are duly registered.
In McLaren’s case, the situation was directly related to the problem faced by Lando Norris in FP2. The current champion stopped on track shortly after the Nouvelle Chicane, about 15 minutes after the session began. The team identified the problem as electrical in nature and decided to conduct a more in-depth investigation overnight.

In a statement, McLaren explained that it needed to replace the car’s electrical harness and also an ESME unit, a component replaced within the quota allowed by the regulations. “After Lando’s car stopped on track in FP2, the team carried out extensive work before FP3. To fully investigate and resolve the issue, we opted to break the curfew and replace some components,” the team reported.
Cadillac also had a complicated Friday. Sergio Pérez had to abandon the session after a brake failure caused flames at the front of the car. The Mexican parked the car in the Pool area, requiring quick intervention from the marshals. The difficulties faced by both teams help explain the extra work carried out overnight to prepare the cars for the rest of the weekend in Monte Carlo.
