A man accused of raping a former nurse of Michael Schumacher’s family testified on Tuesday at the District Court of Nyon, Switzerland. Joey Mawson denied the charges and stated that the relationship was consensual.

The case is related to an episode that allegedly occurred in November 2019 at the Schumacher family residence in Gland. According to the prosecution, the healthcare professional was attending a gathering with employees when she consumed alcoholic beverages, felt unwell, and had to be taken to her room by coworkers.
According to prosecutors, the nurse later woke up without remembering what had happened during the night. The prosecution maintains that she was abused while unconscious. During the hearing, prosecutor Xavier Christe pointed out discrepancies between statements given by Mawson during the investigation and his testimony in court, as well as questioning his ability to recall specific details after admitting to heavy alcohol consumption.

Mawson rejected the charges and stated that the nurse showed interest and invited him into her room. According to the Australian driver, she remained conscious throughout the interaction. He also stated that he stayed at the location until dawn to prevent other employees from discovering the encounter.
The defense argues that videos submitted to the court support this version of events, although the material was not shown during the hearing. Mawson also confirmed having sent apology messages to the nurse after becoming aware of the accusations but stated that this did not represent an admission of guilt. The complaint was formalized in 2022 and began to receive greater public attention in 2025. The Schumacher family is not involved in the process, and none of its members were included as witnesses. The court is expected to conclude the case analysis after the hearings scheduled for this week are completed.
