Kimi Antonelli stated that it was great to have ‘more battles’ in Formula 1 after his victory at the Canadian GP, but the Mercedes driver said there is still work to be done on the engine issue.

In Montreal, the Italian was involved in intense battles with his teammate George Russell. Not only him, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen also fought fiercely for the podium steps.
So, after the win at the GP, the fourth of the 2026 season, Kimi was asked how he feels about the cars this championship, and the driver replied that “I mean, yes, but still, sometimes, the system’s operation bothers you a bit. But definitely, the changes that were made, and the FIA giving teams a bit more flexibility in the system, helped a lot to make things easier.”

“I think the cars, at least for now, are much better than last year’s. You can follow much more closely, which definitely creates more battles. But, regarding the power unit, I definitely can’t complain about mine, because the team did an incredible job, but they also did a great job, of course, with the chassis,” he continued.
“With the power unit, obviously, there is still work to be done, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming years, if the regulations will change, if they will give a bit more power to combustion and a bit less to electric, how that will unfold and if it will happen,” he added.
