Marc Márquez successfully underwent two surgeries this Sunday in Madrid. The Ducati rider remains hospitalized at the Ruber International Hospital after the severe accident suffered in the Sprint of the French GP.

The Spaniard suffered a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot after the violent crash that occurred in the final laps of the Sprint. The surgery was performed by the medical team led by Dr. Samuel Antuña, who managed to stabilize the injury caused by Saturday’s highside.
In addition to the foot procedure, Márquez also took advantage of the hospitalization to undergo a second surgery that had been previously planned. The doctors removed two screws and a bone fragment from the rider’s right shoulder, related to an old operation performed in December 2019.

According to the medical statement, the old injury started causing pain again after the severe accident Márquez suffered at last year’s Indonesian GP. The displacement of the surgical material was compressing the radial nerve, which led Ducati and the rider to opt for the corrective procedure during this hospitalization.
Ducati has already confirmed that Márquez will not participate in next week’s Catalan GP. The rider will remain hospitalized overnight and is expected to return home this Monday to begin the recovery process. The timeline for returning to the track will depend on the progress of rehabilitation in the coming weeks.
