Juan Pablo Montoya questioned the nostalgia of fans who believe that the era in which he competed in Formula 1 was better than the current state of the sport.

The category and the FIA have received a series of criticisms due to the new technical regulations, especially because of the introduction of engines that are 50% electric and 50% internal combustion. The attacks are not only coming from fans but even from drivers, especially Max Verstappen.
This led the governing body to adjust some points of the rule set for the Miami GP and after the race, Montoya, who competed in 94 GPs, stated that the current races are better than in his time.

“We can always complain, but we used to complain even when the car had 950 horsepower and weighed 600 kilos with high-grip tires. Everyone says those were the best racing cars that ever existed, but the races were terrible,” he said.
“The other day, someone told me: ‘You know, your era was much better.’ I replied: ‘Have you ever watched a race from my era and seen how boring it was?’ The races nowadays are fun, and I think we are living in a very special era because we have four teams capable of winning races, and that is not very common,” he added.
