The Briton started the 2026 season as the favorite for the title and even won the opening round in Australia. However, the Italian followed up with three consecutive wins and now leads the championship by 20 points.
Therefore, speaking on the Sky F1 Show podcast, Montoya pointed out how Antonelli knows Russell’s strength in Montreal and how a victory could be important. “Kimi knows that George is very strong there, and in his mind, he knows he needs to beat him,” he said.

“If he manages to beat George there, he will have the psychological advantage, and that is very important. Another thing is that all the others who brought upgrades here, at least one of them had difficulties with the car,” he continued.
“So, that is a big unknown. After you put the upgrades on the car, yes, the car becomes faster, but it behaves differently. Who will like the car? That is another big question,” he added.
