A visually striking accident marked the Miami Grand Prix of Formula 1, involving Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly. The contact ended with the Frenchman’s car flipping after hitting the protective barriers.

The accident caused both drivers to retire and drew attention due to its severity, although Gasly emerged unscathed. The collision happened after Lawson lost control at turn 17 and hit the rear of the Alpine car.
After the race, the Racing Bulls driver explained that the problem was caused by a sudden mechanical failure: “When I entered the last corner and braked, I lost the gearbox and it went to neutral. Basically, I was without gears and couldn’t stop,” he said. According to him, the situation was unexpected and decisive for the outcome.

Lawson regretted the impact of the problem, which also ended Gasly’s race: “It’s a shame for both of us. It’s a big problem and that’s what forced us to retire, but it’s frustrating because it also ended Pierre’s race,” he added.
The New Zealander was recovering after a good start, moving from 11th on the grid to the top 10 in the first laps: “Our first lap was very good, I gained several positions, but we were struggling with the car’s balance. That’s why I was defending position, so it’s frustrating to retire due to a mechanical problem,” Lawson concluded.
