Australian Senna Agius positioned himself as the main name to beat in the Moto2 Spanish GP qualifying. This Friday (24), the Dynavolt Intact rider set a new category lap record at the Jerez Circuit during free practice, clocking 1min38s973.

Agius’s time was closely followed by Gresini’s Alonso López, who finished the day just 0s079 behind. Fantic’s Barry Baltus completed the top-3 after having led FP1.
The session began with Baltus setting the pace, until he was surpassed by KTM Ajo’s Collin Veijer, who even set a new momentary record. However, in the final minutes, Agius took advantage of new tires to definitively take the lead. With this, he became the only rider to drop into the 1min39s range.

Veijer finished the activity in fourth position, ahead of former championship leader Daniel Holgado, from Gaviota Aspar Team. Izan Guevara, from Pramac Yamaha, secured a place among the top 14 only in the final moments of the session. The championship runner-up finished the day ahead of Daniel Muñoz, from Italtrans, and Mario Aji, from Honda, who completed the top eight.
David Alonso, also from Gaviota, was ninth after suffering a heavy crash at Turn 13 during FP1, which resulted in the destruction of his Kalex-Triumph.
Championship leader Manuel González finished Friday only in tenth place, 0s4 behind his teammate.
