Oscar Piastri considered his participation in the Sprint qualifying for the Formula 1 Chinese GP positive, where he secured fifth position on the grid for the short race. The McLaren driver highlighted that the team executed the session well and that the car’s behavior was consistent throughout the activity: “It was a decent Sprint qualifying. We executed a good session, the car behaved very well and everything went smoothly,” he stated.

Despite the positive assessment, the Australian pointed out that there is still a significant gap compared to the performance shown by Mercedes, something the British team intends to analyze before the next sessions: “There is still a big gap to Mercedes, so we need to understand how we can further maximize our performance before the Sprint race and the qualifying session for Sunday’s GP,” he added.

Piastri also highlighted that the focus now is to extract more performance from the package throughout the rest of the weekend: “Let’s see what we can do,” the Australian driver concluded.
