Fernando Alonso stated that Aston Martin should face another complicated weekend at the Formula 1 Chinese GP. After the problematic start to the season in Australia, the Spaniard said that the team’s priority now is simply to accumulate laps and collect car data.

Speaking to the press, Alonso stated that the AMR26’s situation has changed little since Melbourne: “Yes, not much different, I would say. The situation, fortunately, hasn’t changed in four or five days since Melbourne, so yes, I think it’s going to be another difficult weekend, trying to understand as much as possible about the car and, you know, eventually limiting the laps in some of the practices, because we are short on parts and, yes, trying to get something positive out of the weekend.”
According to the two-time champion, the main objective will be to take advantage of track time to find the best operation of the car designed by Adrian Newey. “We really need the laps. We really need to be able to practice and find the car’s ideal window, on the chassis side. And that will obviously be very important for the weekend.”
He also stated that the weekend will be positive if the team manages to carry out the sessions without major problems. “I’ll be happy if we leave China with a more or less normal free practice, a more or less normal qualifying, accumulating laps and, probably, trying to complete the entire race on Sunday, if we are allowed.”
