Lewis Hamilton presented himself as a voice contrary to the almost unanimous opinion of Formula 1 drivers after the first race of the new regulations. The Ferrari driver made a point of saying how much he enjoyed himself during the Australian GP, being one of the few to have praised the new era of cars.

For the 2026 season, the premier category of motorsport applied a series of changes to its regulations, being one of the biggest transformations in recent years. Among the numerous changes is a new engine that splits power between electric battery and internal combustion.
And the opinions in the paddock among the competitors are almost one: discontent. Max Verstappen has been one of the most active voices expressing disgust with the new cars, once again reinforcing his view after the race in Melbourne – even though he started 20th, finished sixth, and was Driver of the Day.
But for the seven-time Formula 1 champion, the race at Albert Park was fun and the new Ferrari car was a pleasure to drive.

“I particularly loved it. I really thought the race was quite fun to race. I thought the cars were very, very fun to drive,” he said.
“I watched the cars ahead, there were good battles going back and forth. So, yes, so far so good,” he added.
