Leader of the Formula 2 championship, Nikola Tsolov was the fastest driver in the only free practice session for the 11th round of the 2026 season, held on the morning of this Friday (11) at Madring, a street circuit set up in Madrid, Spain. The Campos Racing driver recorded his best lap time of 1min47s059, topping the timing sheet.

The second position went to Nico Varrone, an Argentine from Van Amersfoort who was 0.110 seconds slower than Tsolov. Rafael Villagómez, also from Van Amersfoort, finished the session with the third best time, ahead of Colton Herta, fourth with Hitech. The top five also included Alexander Dunne from Rodin Motorsport.

Laurens van Hoepen, who races for Trident, was the sixth fastest, ahead of Martinius Stenshorne, seventh with Rodin Motorsport. Oliver Goethe, from MP Motorsport, was eighth, followed by his teammate and title contender Gabriele Mini. Rafael Câmara, from Invicta Racing, was tenth, and Emmo Fittipaldi, from AIX Racing, was 17th.

The session featured a serious accident involving Thai driver Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, who hit the wall with the ART Grand Prix car. The accident occurred exiting turn 19 of the Spanish circuit and the car caught fire. The driver was unharmed and the session had to be interrupted and later extended by the race direction.
From 10 a.m., qualifying will take place to determine the starting positions for the two races of the weekend. The Sprint is scheduled for 9:15 a.m., while the main race starts at 6:25 a.m. on Sunday.
