Lance Stroll did not hide his concern about Aston Martin’s performance on Friday’s free practice at the Italian Grand Prix of Formula 1. The Canadian stated that the team still needs to improve mainly the drivability and power of the car.

After Friday’s activities, Stroll assessed that the AMR is still far from the desired level, leaving a rather pessimistic outlook for the rest of the weekend: “The car is still not where we want it to be, so there is still work to do. Realistically, it will be a tough weekend for us,” he said.
The Canadian driver explained that the car’s behavior was within what the team expected for Monza, but highlighted that there are important points to be corrected: “It was pretty much as we expected today. We still have many areas where we need to improve, especially with drivability and power,” he added.

On the team side, former driver Pedro de la Rosa, Aston Martin director, also acknowledged the difficulty found on the Italian circuit. According to him, the team completed the planned program, working with all tire compounds, aerodynamic mappings, and short and long run simulations to understand tire degradation.
Fernando Alonso, in turn, had an electrical problem inside the garage, which delayed the start of his participation in TL2. Even so, Stroll managed to complete a solid number of laps, allowing the team to gather data considered important for the rest of the weekend: “We will continue working hard to get the most out of this weekend,” concluded De la Rosa.
