Jenson Button spoke about Fernando Alonso’s future in Formula 1, as the Spaniard has not yet renewed his contract with Aston Martin beyond the 2026 season.

The two-time world champion is, in theory, without a team after the current championship ends. However, he has repeatedly reinforced his commitment to the British team’s project in the long term.
After 12 rounds of the calendar, the driver scored Aston Martin’s only three points, which has struggled to find performance under the new regulations. And for Button, even if Alonso does not continue in F1, he will be one of the greatest in the sport. “Fernando’s future is a much-discussed topic at the moment,” he wrote in Jenson’s Journal, via Aston Martin.
“I have no idea if he will commit to another year in the sport, but I know that when he decides to retire, he will be rightly recognized as one of the true giants of F1, although personally, I hope he stays a little longer. While we wait to see what he will do, I felt like writing and recalling, in this my most recent post, the time I competed against him,” he continued.

“The highest compliment I can pay Fernando is to say that racing for position with him was very similar to racing with Michael Schumacher. In my experiences against them, the battles were tough but fair; we always raced on the limit, and I loved that. It was part of the challenge. When I won my first Grand Prix, in Hungary, I was racing for position with them, and that’s what you want as a driver. You want to compete against the best, against the big names, to see how you compare to them.”
“Throughout my career, I had the opportunity to race against drivers like Fernando and Michael, as well as Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen. I was very lucky to have competed against some of the true legends of the sport. What makes Fernando stand out is his driving style. If you painted all the cars the same color and put all the drivers on the track, you would have difficulty noticing the difference. But when Fernando drives by, you immediately know it’s him. That’s because of what he does behind the wheel,” he added.
“Fernando drives like no one else. He is aggressive, has a brilliant ability to adapt, and has always been like that throughout his entire career,” he concluded.
