The New Zealander was drafted to be Max Verstappen’s teammate in Zandvoort after Isack Hadjar fractured his wrist during training in the summer break. Meanwhile, at Racing Bulls, Yui Tsunoda was called up to compete in the race.
This was Liam’s first race in the main team after his brief stint in 2025 for two races. Last weekend, he qualified eighth and finished seventh. “I’m sure there are things I can do better in the race. I will try to reflect on that,” he said.

“But, in terms of positions, I don’t think we had the speed to keep up with the guys at the front. We already knew that after qualifying as well. Qualifying, for both of us, was behind them,” he added.
“But it was a good weekend. It was good to extract the most from qualifying yesterday. It was a challenge to try to understand this car in a short time, but I enjoyed the experience,” he concluded.
