Durksen takes the lead at the start and wins F2 Sprint in Australia

Joshua Durksen won this Saturday (7) the Sprint race of the opening round of the 2026 Formula 2 season, held at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. The Invicta driver took the lead on the second of the 23 laps contested on the Australian track, and went on to triumph in the race that kicked off the championship.

Second place ended up in the hands of Noel León, a Campos Racing driver who finished just over two seconds behind Durksen. Alexander Dunne, in a Rodin car, benefited from a penalty against his teammate Martinius Stenshorne to finish third. Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, from ART Grand Prix, was fourth after starting from pole position, followed by Ritomo Miyata, fifth with Hitech.

Gabriele Mini, from MP Motorsport, closed the contest in sixth place, finishing ahead of Laurens van Hoepen, seventh with Trident. Roman Bilinski took the DAMS car to eighth place, while Sebastian Montoya, from Prema, was ninth. Stenshorne, despite the penalty for forcing an opponent off the track, was tenth with Rodin.

Rafael Câmara had a bittersweet debut in F2. The driver was in the top 5 for most of the race and fought for a podium spot after a restart, but lost performance shortly after and crossed the finish line only in 11th with Invicta. Emmo Fittipaldi, debuting in the category for AIX Racing, gained positions and finished 14th. Meanwhile, Colton Herta, who swapped Indy for the Formula 1 feeder series, was 16th with Hitech.

The race, which was one of the most eventful, saw a Safety Car deployment on the 15th of the 23 laps, after Mari Boya hit the wall with the Prema car, leaving the contest.
