Stefano Domenicali stated that negotiations are progressing well regarding adding a race on the African continent to the Formula 1 calendar.

The premier motorsport category has not raced in Africa since the last South African GP, held in 1993 at Kyalami. Along with Antarctica, it is the only continent that currently does not host a race.
A return to the circuit, located north of Johannesburg, has been discussed but cooled in recent years with Morocco and Rwanda also among candidates. Lewis Hamilton has already expressed F1’s desire in Africa, with the category’s CEO speaking more about the talks on the possibility.

“I think I can say that negotiations are progressing very well in Africa. Next year, we will return to Portugal and Turkey, and we are holding other talks with [countries] in South America; we also have ongoing negotiations in the Far East,” Domenicali said.
“One thing I can say is that we have more requests [for a second race] in China and Japan, but for now, we want to keep only one race in China, as we need to consolidate the market more strongly before considering other options there,” he added.
