The future of Max Verstappen in Formula 1 for 2027 has been one of the main topics of discussion this season and for Gerhard Berger, the four-time world champion is talking with other teams in the field.

“At the moment, there is a lot of speculation and many ongoing discussions. Of course, Max needs to assess if there is any possibility of continuing to win the World Championship, starting as early as next year,” he told the F1 website.
“That’s why these conversations always arise, involving teams like McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull. It’s typical for this time of year,” he continued.
The Dutchman has a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028, but rumors indicate a departure already at the end of this championship. All because of a performance clause that would allow him to leave the Austrian team earlier.

It is no secret that the competitor has not been happy with the performance of the RB200 and among the top four teams in the Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull is the only one that has not yet managed to win in Formula 1 in 2026.
But for Berger, Verstappen will be more inclined not to say goodbye to the team if performance improves in the second half of the year. “After the summer break, we will see if Red Bull has solved its reliability problems, if the teams bring some modifications, and who emerges as the favorite in the second half of the season,” he pointed out.
“All we want to see, and what the fans want to see, are three or four teams at a similar level, and that everyone has a chance to win,” he concluded.
