Red Bull Racing has reportedly appointed Tom McCullough as the successor to Gianpiero Lambiase in a strategic role within the team. Currently at Aston Martin, the Briton is expected to take on the position of ‘Head of Racing’ following Lambiase’s departure, who currently holds this role as well as being Max Verstappen’s race engineer.

According to the German site BILD, the hiring is close to being finalized. This information coincides with the recent confirmation that McCullough will leave Aston Martin at the end of 2026, after thirteen years with the Silverstone team.
McCullough currently holds the position of performance director at Aston Martin, after expanding his role beyond the specific Formula 1 project. The reason for his departure is not yet defined, nor who will replace him or if the role will be maintained by the team.
At Red Bull, the Briton would take on responsibilities similar to those held by Lambiase as ‘Head of Racing’. According to the information, his role would involve coordinating track operations and managing engineers during GPs, making him an important figure in the team’s structure.

This move comes amid a reshuffle of Red Bull’s professional staff. Gwen Lagrue, who is leaving Mercedes, has been hired to lead the young driver program and succeed Helmut Marko, while Tom Hart has already been chosen to replace Lambiase as Max Verstappen’s race engineer.
Lambiase, who has a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2027, has agreed to transfer to McLaren, although it is not yet defined when he will officially start in the new role. The expectation is that he will enter a mandatory leave period at the start of the next season, allowing him to join McLaren at the beginning of 2028.
If the hiring is confirmed, McCullough will strengthen Red Bull’s structure precisely during the transition of one of the team’s most important figures. However, the Briton will remain at Aston Martin until the end of 2026 before starting the new phase of his career.
